Vercana is a municipality in the Province of Como in the Italian region Lombardy. It is situated on the western side of the lake, approximately 45km north east of Como and has a population of around 750.
Vercana consists of individual hamlets which line the banks of the river Livo, on the slopes of Pizzo Sasso Canale, which looks down onto Lake Como. It is a beautiful village which nestles above Domaso, on the northern shore of the lake and was once an old fishing village. There is a truly unrivalled panoramic view from Vercana overlooking the wonderful nature reserve of 'Pian di Spagna', Monte Legone lying to the east and the alps to the north.
The village has modest facilities; a small grocery store and a bakery, however it does have an amazing panoramic restaurant, complete with a wood burning Pizza oven. A footpath from Vercana leads down into the town of Domaso, approximately 2km away and there are numerous restaurants en route. Local beaches and water sports centres are close by and it is an ideal starting point for mountain bike and hiking tours.
The Church of San Salvatore was built in the 15th century and has Baroque architecture. It is located prominently in the Piazza at Vercana, where it enjoys remarkable views over the lake. The interior of the Church has beautiful frescoes as well as some outstanding statues and sculptures.
