Ventimiglia is a town and in Liguria northern Italy, in the Province of Imperia and is located 130 km southwest of Genoa by rail with a population of approximately 25,000.
It is a town of great historic and architectural interest, amongst them being the remains of a Roman theatre dating back to early part of the 2nd.century, the ancient city walls are also visible in places.
It is no surprise that Ventimiglia is such a popular tourist destination, as it has such a temperate climate and something of interest for everyone. A host of fine restaurants and bars, lovely beaches, sheer cliffs and breathtaking scenery. There is a famous market which is held each Sunday with bargains galore.
Some places of interest for you to visit are the 'Hanbury Botanical Gardens', Villa of Sir Thomas Hanbury, La Mortola, are the biggest and most spectacular in Italy. The Church of San Michele Arcangelo, constructed in the 10th century by the Counts of Ventimiglia. It was later assigned to the Benedictins of Linns. Close to the town are the Genoese Fortresses of Forte San Paolo, Fortezza dell'Annuziata and Castel d'Appio.
